Rosscup seals LA's win with immaculate inning

The ninth inning of the Dodgers' 12-1 blowout victory over Seattle on Sunday should have been unremarkable, but instead, Dodgers left-hander Zac Rosscup finished off the Mariners with a flourish, striking out the side on nine pitches for the 93rd immaculate inning in Major League history.

After seven strong innings from Clayton Kershaw and a scoreless eighth by Daniel Hudson, Rosscup entered for the ninth and secured a trio of swinging strikeouts from Kyle Seager, Ryon Healy and Cameron Maybin, including six swinging strikes and a foul tip. He threw sliders on six of his nine pitches, and all three of his strikeouts came on the pitch.

It was the eighth immaculate inning in Dodgers history, and the first since Kenley Jansen accomplished the feat against the Marlins on May 18, 2017. He is the sixth Dodgers pitcher to throw an immaculate inning, joining Jansen, Todd Worrell, Sandy Koufax (three times), Dazzy Vance and Pat Ragan.

Rosscup's feat marked the 14th time that an immaculate inning ended a nine-inning game, and the 21st time it was accomplished in the ninth inning.

Jose Alvarado of the Rays was the last to pitch an immaculate ninth inning, in a 2-0 loss to the Brewers on Aug. 4, 2017. Jansen was the last pitcher whose immaculate inning finished a game, doing so as part of the eighth of his National League-leading 41 saves in 2017.
