The Oakland A's claimed catcher Dustin Garneau off waivers from the Colorado Rockies, the club announced today.
Garneau was on the Rockies Opening Day roster and hit .206 with a home run and six RBI in 22 games before he was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque May 16. He is batting .281 with 10 home runs, 26 RBI and a .617 slugging percentage in 36 games with the Isotopes. The 29-year-old right-handed hitter tossed out 14-of-29 (48.3%) attempted base stealers at Triple-A and 2-of-8 (25.0%) with Colorado. Garneau was originally selected by Colorado in the 19th round of the 2009 First-Year Player draft. He made his Major League debut with 22 in games in 2015 and played 24 games in 2016. He is a .199 career hitter with four home runs and 20 RBI in 68 games
