OAKLAND -- The Oakland A's recalled right-handed pitchers Chris Bassitt and Carlos Ramirez from Triple-A Nashville, optioned left-handed pitcher Danny Coulombe to Nashville, and placed right-handed pitcher Trevor Cahill on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to Monday with a strained right achilles, the club announced Thursday.
Bassitt joins the A's for the fourth time this year. He did not pitch during his first two stints from April 20-25 and May 26 but made one appearance during his last stint, which lasted one day. Bassitt started and lost last Saturday against Kansas City in a 2-0 A's loss. He allowed a run on three hits and a walk in seven innings but was optioned back to Nashville the next day. It was the first Major League appearance for the 29-year-old right-hander since undergoing UCL reconstruction surgery on May 6, 2016. Bassitt is 2-3 with a 6.10 ERA and .314 opponents batting average in 10 games, including seven starts, with Nashville this year and has allowed just two home runs in 38.1 innings.
Ramirez joins the A's for the second time this year and has a 2.08 ERA and .143 opponents batting in three appearances with Oakland and Toronto in 2018. His first stint with the A's was from May 26 to 30 and he pitched once on May 30 against Tampa Bay when he tossed 2.0 scoreless innings and allowed one hit and one walk. The 27-year-old right-hander logged a 15.75 ERA in three outings with Nashville following his May 31 option and is 0-2 with a 7.53 ERA in 11 minor league appearances with the Sounds and Triple-A Buffalo.
Cahill goes on the disabled list for the second time this year as he was previously out from May 6 to 15 with a right elbow impingement. He went 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA and .202 opponents batting average in four starts before the elbow injury and is 0-1 with a 3.28 ERA and .226 opponents batting average in four starts since his return.
Coulombe has a 4.70 ERA and .250 opponents batting average in 25 relief appearances over two stints with Oakland this year. He was most recently recalled on April 27 and logged a 3.95 ERA in 16 outings during his second stint. Coulombe has pitched once for Nashville this year and did not allow a run in 2.0 innings.
