Oakland A's right-handed pitcher Bobby Wahl will have thoracic outlet surgery on his right arm, the club announced today. Wahl was seen in Dallas, Tex. by Dr. Greg Pearl at Texas Vascular Associates for evaluation. Dr. Pearl has scheduled the surgery for Monday to alleviate Wahl's shoulder discomfort.
Wahl began the season at Triple-A Nashville and was 0-1 with three saves and a 1.93 ERA in eight games when he was recalled by Oakland May 3 to make his Major League debut. He logged a 4.70 ERA in seven relief appearances with the A's before he was placed on the DL May 24 with a strained right shoulder. Wahl began a rehab assignment at Single-A Stockton July 20, was transferred to Nashville July 25 and had his rehab halted Aug. 6.
