Astros Sign Six Players from 2016 MLB Draft Class

The Houston Astros announced today that the club has signed six players who were selected in the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Those players include catcher Jake Rogers, infielder Alex Degoti, right-handed pitcher Colin McKee, infielder Taylor Jones, catcher Chuckie Robinson and left-handed pitcher Howie Brey. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. The official announcement was made by Astros Director of Amateur Scouting Mike Elias.

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros announced today that the club has signed six players who were selected in the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Those players include catcher Jake Rogers, infielder Alex Degoti, right-handed pitcher Colin McKee, infielder Taylor Jones, catcher Chuckie Robinson and left-handed pitcher Howie Brey. Rogers, 21, was the Astros highest selection to sign today, as he was drafted in the 3rd round with the 97th overall selection. A junior out of Tulane, Rogers hit .261 (55x211) with nine doubles, seven home runs and a .384 on-base percentage in 61 games for the Green Wave this season. Rogers excelled behind the plate, as he was named to the watch list of the Johnny Bench Award, which is presented annually to the top DI collegiate catcher, while finishing his collegiate career with the most caught stealings in school history (83).
Houston has signed six of their 40 selections from the 2016 draft.
