The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired RHP Kyle Johnston from the Washington Nationals in exchange for RHP Daniel Hudson.
Johnston, 23, has a 9-9 record with a 4.03 ERA across 20 starts for Advanced-A Potomac of the Carolina League this season, striking out 100 batters in 105.0 innings pitched. The 6-0, 190 lb. right-handed pitcher from Flower Mound, TX has pitched in 63 games in three Minor League seasons, combining for a 3.93 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP with 229 strikeouts over 254.1 innings of work.
Hudson, 32, has posted a record of 6-3 with a 3.00 ERA and two saves in 45 games for the Blue Jays this season. The 6-3, 225 lb. right-handed pitcher has thrown 48.0 innings in 2019, allowing 38 hits with 23 walks and 48 strikeouts. Toronto signed Hudson as a free agent on March 25, 2019. The native of Lynchburg, VA owns a career record of 46-35 with a 3.92 ERA in 355 games over nine Major League seasons with five different organizations.
