Blue Jays sign Justin Smoak to extension

The contract will pay the 29 year old $4.125 million (US) per season in the first two years of the deal with a $6.0 million option in 2019 with a $250,000 buyout.

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have agreed to terms with 1B JUSTIN SMOAK on a two year contract extension for the 2017 & 2018 seasons with a club option for the 2019 season. The contract will pay the 29 year old $4.125 million (US) per season in the first two years of the deal with a $6.0 million option in 2019 with a $250,000 buyout.
Smoak is currently batting .234 with a nine home runs and 23 RBI while posting a .333 on-base percentage and a .402 slugging percentage. In seven Major League seasons the 6-4, 220 lb. first baseman has appeared in780 games posting a .225 batting average with 101 home runs, 316 RBI and a .310 on-base percentage.
