The Atlanta Braves today announced the club acquired RHP Huascar Ynoa from the Minnesota Twins for LHP Jaime García, C Anthony Recker and cash considerations. To fill García's spot on the active roster, the club recalled RHP Matt Wisler from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Ynoa, 19, is in his third professional season after signing as a 16-year-old out of Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic in 2014. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound right-hander, who ranked as the 22nd-best prospect in the Twins system according to MLB.com, made six starts for the Rookie-level Elizabethton Twins this season, going 0-1 with a 5.26 ERA (15 ER/25.2 IP). In his stateside debut last season, Ynoa struck out a batter per inning (51 SO/51.0 IP) in 11 starts for the rookie-level GCL Twins.
Ynoa was the 14th-best international prospect in 2014 according to Baseball America, while MLB.com ranked him 17th for that class. For his career, he owns a 3.38 ERA (50 ER/133.1 IP) and a 5-11 record in 31 games, all starts. He has struck out 121 while allowing just three home runs.
Ynoa is the younger brother of Michael Ynoa, a right-hander in the Chicago (AL) system who has made 45 appearances out of the bullpen for the White Sox over the past two seasons.
García, 31, went 4-7 with a 4.30 ERA (54 ER/113.0 IP) in 18 games, all starts, for the Braves.
