ATLANTA - The Atlanta Braves today announced the organization has hired Dana Brown as vice president, scouting. Brown joins the club from the Toronto Blue Jays, where he served as a special assistant to the general manager for the previous nine seasons. In his role, Brown will oversee Atlanta's amateur scouting efforts.
"We are extremely excited to add Dana to our baseball operations staff," said Braves General Manager Alex Anthopoulos. "His track record of identifying major league talent is unquestioned, and we look forward to his contributions to our organization."
Brown joined the Blue Jays prior to the 2010 season and served as one of the organization's top evaluators, contributing to a pair of postseason appearances. Toronto's 2015 A.L. East Championship clinched the club's first postseason appearance since 1993, and snapped the longest playoff drought in the majors at the time. Brown worked as the director of scouting for the Expos/Nationals for eight seasons from 2002-09, during which he drafted over 40 major league players, including seven All-Stars. He began his scouting career with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1994, and served as an area supervisor and East Coast scouting coordinator for eight seasons before joining the Expos.
A native of New Brunswick, N.J., Brown attended New Brunswick High School before playing collegiately at Seton Hall University. He was an outfielder for three seasons in the Phillies system before starting his scouting career.
