Braves Select OF Drew Waters 41st Overall

The Atlanta Braves selected outfielder Drew Waters of Etowah High School in Woodstock, Ga., with the 41st pick in the 2017 First-Year Player Draft.

The Atlanta Braves tonight selected outfielder Drew Waters of Etowah High School in Woodstock, Ga., with the 41st pick in the 2017 First-Year Player Draft.
Waters, 18, hit .510 (53-for-104) with 15 home runs, four triples, and 13 doubles for Etowah this season, helping lead the Eagles to the first Class AAAAAAA state title in school history. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound switch hitter was named the Gatorade State Player of the Year in Georgia, while also earning Rawlings-Perfect Game First-Team All-American honors.
Waters, who throws right-handed, ranked as the 35th-best prospect in the draft according to Baseball America. The publication also ranked him as the best position player prospect in Georgia. He committed to attend the University of Georgia in the fall.
Atlanta selected Vanderbilt right-handed pitcher Kyle Wright fifth overall with its only other selection tonight.
