Cleveland, OH -- The Cleveland Indians organization and players continue to work toward achieving their goals of preparing youth for successful lives, while improving the quality of and creating a sustainable plan for baseball and softball programs in Greater Cleveland.
The Indians have once again partnered with Terry Francona and various players to organize multiple community outreach programs. All programs focus on either veterans, Cleveland Clinic patients, families in need or high-achieving students.
New programs this season:
Lonnie's Lineup
Lonnie Chisenhall and his wife, Meredith, will host families from the Salvation Army during batting practice at Tuesday home games. Along with on-field access, the families will also receive a clubhouse tour, watch the game from Club Lounge and receive other gifts, like T-shirts and stuffed animals, from the Chisenhalls.
• Note: The first Lonnie's Lineup will take place tonight, April 25, at Progressive Field before the game
Edwin's Squad
Edwin's Squad will consist of a patient from Cleveland Clinic Children's and his or her family on select Thursday home games. Also joining will be a Cleveland Clinic high school scholar as part of Cleveland Clinic's education programming. Guests will watch batting practice on the field, take pictures with Edwin and watch the game from the Club Lounge. The patient will also receive an Encarnacion jersey.
Returning programs include:
Friends of Francona
For the fourth year, Terry Francona and WTAM will team up with the Cleveland VA Medical Center to provide Club Lounge tickets to select military veterans and their families every Sunday home game. The veterans will receive Indians-branded military caps and T-shirts, as well as an in-game scoreboard message.
Miracle League Mondays
An Indians player will host local Miracle League athletes every Monday home game for the second year. The athletes will have the opportunity to watch BP on the field, meeting with various Indians players; they'll then watch the game from Club Lounge seats.
Kluber's Kids
On Wednesday home games, Corey Kluber and his wife, Amanda, will host a child from Cleveland Clinic Children's. As part of this program, the child and his or her family will watch batting practice on the field, receive Kluber jerseys and watch the game that night from the Club Lounge. On special occasions, guests will watch Kluber throw a bullpen session in the outfield.
Kluber VA Medical Center Visits
Throughout the season, Corey and Amanda will visit the Cleveland VA Medical Center to honor and show support to our local veterans. This year, the Klubers will visit with various PTSD patients and similar veteran groups to support them through their treatment process.
