D-backs acquire Hernandez from Angels; Transfer Ahmed to the 60-DL

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired RHP David Hernandez (@DHern_30) from the Los Angeles Angels for RHP Luis Madero. In a corresponding move, INF Nick Ahmed was transferred from the 10-day to 60-day disabled list with a fractured right hand.

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired RHP David Hernandez (@DHern_30) from the Los Angeles Angels for RHP Luis Madero. In a corresponding move, INF Nick Ahmed was transferred from the 10-day to 60-day disabled list with a fractured right hand. 
Hernandez, 32, has gone 1-0 with 1 save, a 2.23 ERA (9 ER in 36.1 IP), 37 strikeouts and 8 walks in 38 appearances this season with the Angels, including a 1.14 ERA (3 ER in 23.2 IP) over his last 22 games since May 30. He has limited left-handed hitters to 1 extra-base hit (double) and a .175 average (10-for-57).
Hernandez, who pitched for the D-backs from 2011-15, ranks among the franchise leaders by a reliever in several categories, including: holds (1st, 70), appearances (3rd, 248), strikeouts (3rd, 274), wins (6th, 13), innings pitched (6th, 233.2), games finished (9th, 68) and ERA (10th, 3.54). He is 29-39 with 21 saves, a 3.97 ERA (231 ER in 523.1 IP) and 531 strikeouts in 417 career games over parts of 8 Major League seasons with the Baltimore Orioles (2009-10), D-backs, Philadelphia Phillies (2016) and Angels (2017).   
Madero, 20, was 4-2 with a 5.69 ERA (31 ER in 49.0 IP) in 9 starts between Rookie-Level Missoula and Short-Season A Hillsboro this season.
Ahmed, 27, has appeared in 53 games for the D-backs, hitting .251 (42-for-167) with a .717 OPS, 8 doubles, 1 triple, 6 homers, 21 RBI and 10 walks.
The D-backs' 40-man roster remains at 40.
