D-backs acquire Matt Andriese from the Rays for Michael Perez and Brian Shaffer

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired RHP Matt Andriese (@MAndriese) from the Tampa Bay Rays for C Michael Perez and RHP Brian Shaffer. To make room on the D-backs' 40-man roster, the club designated RHP Randall Delgado for assignment.

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired RHP Matt Andriese (@MAndriese) from the Tampa Bay Rays for C Michael Perez and RHP Brian Shaffer. To make room on the D-backs' 40-man roster, the club designated RHP Randall Delgado for assignment.
Andriese, 28, is 3-4 with a 4.07 ERA (27 ER in 59.2 IP), .240 opponent average and 59 strikeouts in 27 games (4 starts) for the Rays this season. In his 23 relief appearances, he has pitched 2.0 or more innings 16 times, tied for the second highest total in baseball (3 others) behind Tyler Glasnow/PIT (18), and 3.0 or more 5 times, tied for third most (5 others), behind Ryan Yarbrough/TB (13) and Austin Pruitt/TB (8). He has limited left-handed hitters to a .174 (16-for-92)/.245 OBP/.261 SLG in 2018, the best opponent average and slugging pct. among Major League relievers, while his .245 on-base pct. ranks second to Yusmeiro Petit/OAK (.229) [min. 100 LHB faced].
Andriese has gone 19-22 with 4 saves, a 4.30 ERA (162 ER in 339.0 IP), .261 opponent average and 293 strikeouts in 99 career games (48 starts) with the Rays. He was acquired by Tampa Bay, along with RHP Brad Boxberger, INF Logan Forsythe, RHP Matt Lollis and INF Maxx Tissenbaum, from the San Diego Padres for RHP Jesse Hahn and LHP Alex Torres on January 22, 2014. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder was originally selected by the Padres in the third round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of California, Riverside.
Perez, 25, hit .284 (62-for-218) with 9 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs and 29 RBI in 58 games for Triple-A Reno this year. He was a non-roster invitee to D-backs Spring Training in 2018.
Shaffer, 21, was 7-5 with a 2.70 ERA (32 ER in 106.2 IP) in 19 starts for Single-A Kane County in 2018. He was selected by the D-backs in the sixth round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft.
Delgado, 28, was 2-0 with a 5.14 ERA (4 ER in 7.0 IP ) in 6 games for Arizona this season.
