D-backs agree to terms with Adam Jones on a 1-year contract

Silvino Bracho placed on 60-day injured list

The Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to terms with OF Adam Jones (@SimplyAJ10) on a 1-year contract. To make room on the roster, the D-backs placed RHP Silvino Bracho (torn right ulnar collateral ligament) on the 60-day Injured List. The D-backs’ roster remains at 40.

Jones, 33, is a 5-time American League All-Star (2009, ’12-15), won 4 AL Rawlings Gold Glove Awards® (2009, ’12-14) and captured an AL Louisville Slugger® Silver Slugger Award™ in 2013. He is 1 of 6 outfielders in Major League history with at least 4 Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Awards, joining, Andre Dawson, Ken Griffey Jr., Tony Gwynn, Kirby Puckett and Dave Winfield.

Jones ranks ninth in the Majors with 191 home runs since 2012, and his 1,062 games are tied for sixth most with Jose Altuve/HOU. Jones also ranks among all outfielders during that span in hits (1st, 1,179), games (2nd, 1,045), home runs (4th, 189), RBI (4th, 578), doubles (4th, 207) and runs scored (6th, 579) [stats as outfielder only].

Jones is a career .278 AVG/.318 OBP/.456 SLG hitter with 311 doubles, 28 triples, 266 home runs and 878 RBI in 1,686 games with the Mariners (2006-07) and Orioles (2008-18). He was the first Oriole to hit 25+ home runs in 7 consecutive seasons (2011-17), and ranks among the franchise’s Top 10 in numerous offensive categories, including home runs (5th, 263), hits (5th, 1,781), extra-base hits (5th, 595), RBI (6th, 866), doubles (8th, 305) and games (9th, 1,613). Additionally, Jones is the all-time leader at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in home runs (146), RBI (476) and hits (916).

The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder has played 1,589 games in center field, 39 in right field (33 in 2018) and 28 in left (2 in 2018). Jones’ 100 assists rank fifth among active outfielders, trailing Ichiro Suzuki (123), Melky Cabrera (118), Nick Markakis (117) and Jose Bautista (103).

In 2018, Jones led Baltimore in average (.281), hits (163), doubles (35), RBI (63) and multi-hit games (44), earning his third career Most Valuable Oriole Award (also: 2011-12). He finished third among AL outfielders in 3+ hit games (17), ranked sixth in hits (159) and tied for seventh in doubles (33) [stats as outfielder only].

Jones, who played in 2 World Baseball Classics with Team USA (2013, ’17), was originally drafted by the Mariners in the supplemental first round in 2003 (37th overall), and traded to the Orioles on Feb. 8, 2008 with LHP George Sherrill, RHP Chris Tillman, RHP Kam Mickolio and LHP Tony Butler for LHP Erik Bedard.

Bracho, 26, will undergo Tommy John surgery on Wednesday in New York by Dr. Altchek. He has appeared in 91 games over 4 seasons with the D-backs (2015-18), going 2-2 with 1 save and a 4.67 ERA (46 ER in 88.2 IP).
