D-backs claim Henry Owens off waivers from Red Sox

The D-backs' 40-man roster is now at 39.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have claimed LHP Henry Owens (@henryownsz) off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.
Owens, 25, a 3-time Top 100 Prospect by both Baseball America (#44 entering 2015, #40 in 2014 [BOS #2] and #91 in 2013 [BOS #2]) and MLB.com (#19 entering 2015, #30 in 2014 and #94 in 2013), was selected by the Red Sox in the supplemental first round (36th overall) of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft. He also participated in the 2014 All-Star Futures Game at Target Field.
The 6-foot-6, 220-pounder went 60-42 with a 3.49 ERA (303 ER in 781.2 IP) and 828 strikeouts (9.53 per 9.0 IP) in 146 games (145 starts) over 6 Minor League seasons in the Red Sox' organization (2012-17). In 2014, Owens was named aBaseball America Minor League All-Star and the Eastern League Pitcher of the Year after going 17-5 with a 2.94 ERA (52 ER in 159.0 IP) and 170 strikeouts in 26 starts between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket.
Owens has made 16 Major League starts with Boston from 2015-16, going 4-6 with a 5.19 ERA (49 ER in 85.0 IP). He allowed 3 earned runs or fewer in 11 of his starts.
In 2017, Owens combined to go 7-11 with a 4.21 ERA (59 ER in 126.0 IP), 121 strikeouts and a .216 opponent average in 26 starts with Portland and Pawtucket. He also pitched with Peoria in the Arizona Fall league following the season.
