PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled INF Kevin Cron (@kevin_cron24) from Triple-A Reno and placed UTL Blake Swihart on the 10-day injured list (strained right oblique).
Cron, 26, is hitting .231 (3-for-13) with 3 doubles and 2 RBI in 7 games with the D-backs in 2019. He was recalled from Reno on May 24, made his Major League debut that night @ Giants, and was optioned back to the Aces on Thursday.
In 44 games for Reno this season, Cron has batted .339 (56-for-165)/.437 OBP/.800 SLG with 13 doubles, 21 home runs, 62 RBI and 27 walks. At the time of his promotion, he led all Minor Leaguers in home runs and RBI.
Cron was the D-backs’ 14th-round pick in the 2014 draft, out of Texas Christian University. He attended Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix, where he was named the 2011 Gatorade High School Player of the Year, Arizona Player of the Year and also made the 2011 USA Today All-USA High School Baseball Team. He holds Arizona high school records for home runs in a career (60) and single-season (27 in 2011).
His dad, Chris, is the manager at Reno, and brother, C.J., is an infielder for the Twins.
Swihart, 27, has appeared in 30 games for the D-backs in 2019 with 3 home runs and 9 RBI.
