D-backs recall Tim Locastro from Triple-A Reno, place Alex Avila on 10-day injured list

The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled INF/OF Tim Locastro from Triple-A Reno and placed C Alex Avila (strained left quadriceps) on the 10-day Injured List. Locastro will wear No. 16.

Locastro, 26, has appeared in 3 games for Reno this season, going 1-for-12 with a home run, 1 RBI and a walk. He has made 21 Major League appearances over 2 seasons with the Dodgers (2017-18), hitting .167 (2-for-12) with 1 double, 2 walks, 6 runs scored and 5 stolen bases. The majority of his career appearances came in 2018, hitting .182 (2-for-11) with 1 double, 2 walks, 6 runs scored and 4 stolen bases in 18 games, 9 of which came as a pinch-runner.

In 7 Minor League seasons in the Blue Jays (2013-15), Dodgers (2015-18) and D-backs’ (2019) systems, he has batted .291/.375 /.403 with 114 doubles, 19 triples, 29 home runs, 201 RBI, 143 walks, 396 runs scored and 162 stolen bases in 571 games. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder entered 2018 rated by Baseball America as the Fastest Baserunner in the Dodgers’ system and has been successful in 81.0 percent (162-for-200) of his career stolen base attempts. He has made appearances at second base (272 games), shortstop (130), center field (104), left field (25) and first base (14).

Locastro was acquired by the D-backs from the Yankees on January 16 for LHP Ronald Román and cash considerations. He was originally selected by the Blue Jays in the 13th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Ithaca College.

Avila, 32, is hitting .333 (5-for-15)/.524/.800 with 1 double, 2 home runs, 5 RBI, 6 walks and 5 runs scored in 6 games for Arizona this season.
