D-backs to host Native American Recognition Day this Saturday

D-backs to begin 21st annual Inter-Tribal Youth Baseball & Softball Tournament today

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks, @LosDbacks) will host Native American Recognition Day, presented by Gila River Hotels & Casinos, this Saturday, June 1 at Chase Field. The first 20,000 fans will receive a D-backs Tribal Cap, courtesy of Gila River Hotels & Casinos.

The D-backs will recognize several of Arizona’s Tribal Royalty contingent during a pregame ceremony and will have traditional song and dance groups on site that will perform throughout the ballpark and on the field before the game. Festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. and include Native American drum groups, dancers, vocalists, artisans, educational exhibits and more. Miss Gila River Tyler Owens will throw out the ceremonial first pitch, Gabriel Ayala will sing the national anthem and color guard will be posted by Haskell Osife – Antone American Legion Post #51. D-backs Inter-Tribal Baseball & Softball Tournament

Starting today, the D-backs will host their 21st annual Inter-Tribal Youth Baseball & Softball Tournament (May 29-June 1) with games played throughout the Salt River reservation and at ballparks around the Valley. More than 1,125 participants, including 75 teams, will travel from five states (Arizona, New Mexico, California, South Dakota, and Utah) and represent more than 23 tribes and for many this will be the first time leaving their tribal reservation. The D-backs will recognize the top four teams in each division and pass out trophies to the team MVPs and championship teams during a special pregame recognition this Saturday at Native American Recognition Day. Tournament participants will also partake in a pregame parade around the field.
