OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland Athletics have optioned infielder Franklin Barreto to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Barreto, 23, hit .351 this spring, including one home run, three RBI, and a .429 on-base percentage. After making his Major League debut in 2017, Barreto has hit .215 with seven home runs and 22 RBI in 58 games played over the last two seasons. He appeared in one game of the Japan Opening Series last week against Seattle but did not record an at-bat. At the Triple-A level, he’s hitting .280 with 34 home runs and 103 RBI in 192 games played.

The move makes room on the 25-man roster for Kendrys Morales, acquired yesterday from the Toronto Blue Jays.
