May 11th, 2019

SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco Giants announced today that they have claimed outfielder Aaron Altherr off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies.

Altherr, 28, appeared in 22 games and had 30 plate appearances with the Phillies this season.

Born in Germany, Altherr (pronounced all-TAIR) was the Phillies pick in the ninth round of the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft out of Agua Fria High School (Avondale, AZ). He reached the big leagues in 2014, and by 2017 was a regular corner outfielder for the club. In what was his best season that year, he slashed .272/.340/.516 with 19 home runs, 65 RBI and 48 extra-base hits in 107 games.

Altherr has appeared at all three outfield positions in his career, playing 175 games in right field, 103 in left field and 56 in center field.

To make room for Altherr on the 40-man roster, the Giants designated right-handed pitcher Andrew Moore for assignment.
