Indians tab INF Yordys Valdes with the 63rd overall pick in the second round

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Indians tonight announced the selection of INF YORDYS VALDES with the 63rd overall pick in the second round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft.

Valdes, 17, recently graduated from McArthur High School in Miami, FL, batting .343 (25-for-73) with 8 2B, 1 3B, 13 RBI and 20 runs scored in 23 games. The switch-hitting, shortstop was born in Cuba, moved to South Florida at age five and recently committed to Florida State University. He was coached in high school by former Major Leaguer Oddibe McDowell and his father, Oscar, played outfield for the Cuban national team.
