Injury update on Athletics LHP A.J. Puk

The Oakland A's announced the following medical update on left-handed pitcher A.J. Puk. Dr. James Andrews was consulted after an initial diagnosis by Dr. Doug Freedberg in Arizona, and it has been recommended that Puk undergo "Tommy John" surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his left arm.

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Oakland A's announced the following medical update on left-handed pitcher A.J. Puk.
Dr. James Andrews was consulted after an initial diagnosis by Dr. Doug Freedberg in Arizona, and it has been recommended that Puk undergo "Tommy John" surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his left arm.
There will be no further update until the Club has news to pass along.
Puk, 22, combined to go 6-10 with a 4.03 ERA (56 ER, 125.0 IP) with 184 strikeouts in 27 games, including 24 starts with High-A Stockton and AA Midland in 2017. In two minor league seasons, he is 6-14 with a 3.82 ERA (25 ER, 61.0 IP) with 98 strikeouts in 37 games, including 34 starts. He was selected by Oakland in the 1st round, 6th overall, of the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Florida.
