ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—Infielder Junior Caminero and right-handed pitcher Drew Rasmussen have been named American League (AL) Player of the Month and Pitcher of the Month for June, respectively. This marks the first time in franchise history the Rays have won both awards in a single month and the first instance across Major League Baseball (MLB) since New York-AL’s Aaron Judge and Max Fried in September 2025.
Caminero, 22, is the youngest player in franchise history to earn player or pitcher of the month honors, surpassing 23-year-old right-handed pitcher Taj Bradley in July 2024. The 2025 All-Star slashed .327/.402/.673 (32-for-98) with four doubles, 10 home runs, 24 RBI, 13 walks, 19 runs, and a 1.075 OPS across 26 games during June, pacing the AL in homers, slugging percentage, and OPS while finishing second in RBI and total bases (66), tied for third in hits and extra-base hits (14), fifth in batting average, tied for sixth in runs, and eighth in on-base percentage.
His 10 home runs established a franchise record for the month of June while his 24 RBI tied for second most behind Greg Vaughn in June 2001 (27). His 1.075 OPS was third best by a Rays hitter during the month (min. 90 plate appearances), trailing Fred McGriff in June 2001 (1.184) and Yandy Díaz in 2025 (1.079), while his .673 slugging percentage ranked third behind McGriff in 2001 (.684) and Carl Crawford in 2006 (.677).
He closed June by homering in six of his last seven games, including each of his final five contests. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native was named AL Player of the Week for June 22-28 after hitting .423 (11-for-26) with seven home runs, 15 RBI, eight runs, and a 1.731 OPS in seven games. He clubbed a franchise-record-tying three home runs on June 25 vs. Kansas City, becoming the seventh Rays batter to accomplish the feat and the first since Isaac Paredes on June 21, 2022 vs. New York-AL. Caminero recorded a career-high-tying six RBI in the three-homer effort, matching May 29, 2025 at Houston, joining Carlos Peña (three times) as the only players to record multiple games with six RBI or more in their Rays careers.
Caminero is the fourth Ray to receive an AL Player of the Month honor, joining Austin Meadows (September 2019), B.J. Upton (June 2009), and Evan Longoria (April 2009).
Rasmussen, 30, went 3-2 with a 0.82 ERA (33.0 IP, 3 ER), 39 strikeouts, four walks, one home run, and a 0.61 WHIP while holding opponents to a .142/.192/.195 (16-for-113) slash line over five starts in June, each of which were quality. He paced AL pitchers in ERA; WHIP; opponent batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS; strikeout rate (32.5 percent); strikeout-to-walk ratio (9.75); and home runs per 9.0 innings pitched (0.27). His five quality starts tied Boston’s Sonny Gray for the most in the AL.
The right-hander’s 0.61 WHIP was the lowest during a calendar month in franchise history (min. 30.0 innings pitched), surpassing Ryan Yarbrough in August 2019 (0.63), and was the best mark by an AL pitcher since Detroit’s Tarik Skubal in May 2025 (0.59). Under the same parameter, it marked the best WHIP during a single June by any pitcher in the modern era (since 1900), eclipsing the previous record established by Seattle’s Logan Gilbert in June 2024 (0.62).
His 0.82 ERA was third lowest during any month in Rays history (min. 30.0 innings pitched), trailing Chris Archer in July 2013 (0.73) and Rich Hill in May 2021 (0.78). It marked the best monthly ERA by an AL pitcher since Texas’ Nathan Eovaldi in July 2025 (0.59). Rasmussen became the third Rays hurler to record 39 strikeouts or more and four walks or fewer in a month, joining Shane McClanahan in June 2022 (42, 4) and David Price in May 2014 (43, 4), and the first AL pitcher since Boston’s Garrett Crochet in September/October 2025 (41, 4).
This marks the 12th time in franchise history a Rays hurler has won AL Pitcher of the Month, and it signals Rasmussen’s second award, joining August 2022. The Puyallup, Wash. native is the first Rays pitcher to receive the honor since Bradley in July 2024. Rasmussen is one of nine Rays hurlers to earn a monthly award, also joining Tyler Glasnow (July 2023 and April 2019), Blake Snell (August and September 2018), Hill (May 2021), Archer (July 2013), Jeremy Hellickson (May 2011), Price (September 2010), and Scott Kazmir (May 2008). He joins Glasnow and Snell as the only Rays to receive multiple monthly honors in their careers.
