April 18th, 2019

OAKLAND, Calif. – Designated Hitter Khris Davis will stay “Rooted in Oakland” for an additional two seasons, the Club announced today. The A’s have agreed to terms with Davis on a contract extension through the 2021 season.

"Khris is a special talent who has made a tremendous impact both on and off the field during his time here,” said A’s Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations Billy Beane. “He’s become one of the most beloved players to have worn an A’s uniform, and his commitment to Oakland has never wavered. He made it clear from the beginning that he wants to play, and win, right here. We're thrilled that Khris will continue to be an A.”

To celebrate Davis, the team will offer two-for-one tickets to all games this weekend versus the Toronto Blue Jays (Friday, April 19–Sunday, April 21). Two dollars from every ticket sold will benefit Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area. Additionally, the Club will sell exclusive KD2 T-shirts during Friday’s game at the Oakland A’s Community Corner behind Section 218. All proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area. "Oakland has been a special place for me since I arrived,” said Davis. “I love playing here in front of our fans, and my teammates make this feel, like a family. I never hid the fact that I wanted to stay in Oakland because that is how I feel and I'm glad that I can continue to call the city of Oakland my baseball home. This team has a bright future, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it."

Davis has hit a Major League leading 10 home runs over his first 20 games this year and is batting .260 with 20 RBI and a .967 OPS. He hit his 10th home run in Oakland’s 18th game last Friday at Texas to become the fastest player to reach 10 home runs in a season in Athletics history. The 31-year-old slugged his 200th career home run on April 10 at Baltimore in his 790th career game, which were the ninth fewest games in Major League history for a player to reach 200 career home runs.

Since Davis was acquired by the A’s on Feb. 12, 2016, he has slugged 143 home runs, which is 14 more than the next closest player (Giancarlo Stanton), and has driven in 355 runs, which is second only to Nolan Arenado (385). He has reached 40 home runs and 100 RBI in each of his first three seasons with the A’s to become the 22nd player in Major League history with at least three straight seasons of 40 HR and 100 RBI. He already ranks 10th on the Oakland career home run list and has three of the 10 best single season home run totals by an Oakland Athletic.

Davis hit a Major League leading and career-high 48 home runs and ranked second with a career-high 123 RBI in 151 games last year. His home run total was third best in Oakland history and was the most since Mark McGwire set the record with 52 in 1996. Davis became the third player in Athletics history with three 40-homer seasons, joining McGwire and Jimmie Foxx, and is the 10th with three straight 100-RBI seasons. The Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter Award winner hit 46 of his home runs as the DH, falling one short of David Ortiz’ ML record for a DH. Davis led the Majors with 21 go-ahead home runs and tied for the lead with 33 go-ahead RBI.

A Cal State Fullerton alum, Davis had 43 home runs and 110 RBI in 153 games in 2017, ranking second in the American League in home runs and third in RBI. He set an Oakland record for homers by a left fielder, with 34. Davis made his A’s debut in 2016 with 42 home runs and 102 RBI in 150 games, tying for third in the AL in home runs.

Davis made his Major League debut with Milwaukee in 2013 and hit .250 with 60 home runs and 162 RBI in 321 games in three seasons as a Brewer. He has a .247 average with 143 home runs and 355 RBI in 474 games in four seasons with the A’s and is a .248 career hitter with 203 home runs and 517 RBI in 795 games in seven seasons.
