Mariners activate LHP James Paxton and select INF Zach Vincej

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced several roster moves today.

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves;
•   James Paxton, LHP, activated from the 10-day disabled list. 
•   Zach Vincej, INF, selected from AAA Tacoma.
•   Kyle Seager, INF, placed on the paternity list. 
•   Daniel Vogelbach, INF, optioned to AAA Tacoma. 
Seattle's Major League, 40-man roster, is now at 40 players. 
Paxton (#65) will be Seattle's starting pitcher in tonight's (7:10 pm PT) game vs. the Houston Astros at Safeco Field. Vincej (#6) will be in uniform and available for tonight's game. 
A player may be on the Paternity List for up to 3 days. 
Paxton, 29, was originally placed on the 10-day disabled list on July 13 with lower back inflammation. He is 8-4 with a 3.70 ERA (49 ER, 119.1 IP) with 155 strikeouts and 33 walks in 20 starts this season. Among Major League leaders, he ranks 9th in strikeouts and 5th in strikeouts per 9.0 innings (11.69/155 K, 119.1 IP). The 6-4, 235-pound left-hander has struck out 10-or-more batters in 7 starts this season, 4th-most in the Majors. He is one of three pitchers in the Majors this season to have thrown 2 complete games (also: José Berríos-MIN and Carlos Carrasco-CLE). Paxton pitched the 6th no-hitter in Mariners history on May 8 at Toronto. He became the first American League pitcher to record a 16-strikeout game (5/2 vs. OAK) and a no-hitter in the same season since Nolan Ryan in 1991.  
The Ladner, British Columbia, Canada, native is 38-24 with a 3.38 ERA (203 ER, 541.1 IP) with 564 strikeouts and 159 walks in 94 career starts. Paxton was selected by Seattle in the 4th round of the 2010 MLB Draft and has spent 8 years in the Mariners organization, including parts of 6 Major League seasons. 
Vincej ("VINCE-ee"), 27, is batting .236 (70x296) with 34 runs, 9 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs and 44 RBI in 84 games with AAA Tacoma this season. He has appeared defensively at shortstop (70 games, 69 starts), 2nd base (13 GS) and 3rd base (1 GS). Vincej was claimed off waivers from Cincinnati on Nov. 3, 2017 and outrighted by Seattle to Tacoma on Nov. 11. 
He made his Major League debut with the Reds in 2017, appearing in 9 games and going 1-for-9 (.111) with 2 runs. The 6-foot, 190-pound shortstop spent most of the 2017 season with AAA Louisville, where he hit .270 (102x378) with 36 runs, 21 doubles, 4 triples, 3 home runs and 38 RBI in 110 games. In 2016, Vincej earned a Minor League Rawlings Gold Glove Award at shortstop after leading all minor league shortstops with a .991 fielding percentage. 
In parts of 7 minor league seasons with the Mariners (2018) and Reds (2012-17), Vincej is a career .267 (616x2307) hitter with 304 runs, 115 doubles, 15 triples, 22 home runs, 239 RBI and 52 stolen bases in 662 career games. The native of San Diego, Calif., was selected by Cincinnati in the 37th round of the 2012 MLB Draft out of Pepperdine University. He was the recipient of the Brooks Wallace Award, honoring the nation's top collegiate shortstop, as a junior in 2012. 
Seager, 30, is batting .228 (91x400) with 45 runs, 24 doubles, 16 home runs, 57 RBI, 4 HBP and 25 walks in 104 games with the Mariners this season. He leads the club in extra-base hits (40), while ranking 2nd in doubles and 3rd in RBI. On April 7 at Minnesota, he recorded his 1,000th career hit, becoming 1 of 9 players to collect at least 1,000 hits with the Mariners.
Seager, the Mariners 3rd round selection in the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft, made his debut with the club on July 7, 2011 at the Angels and has been on the Mariners active roster continually since Aug. 2, 2011. In 8 seasons in a Mariners uniform, he has amassed 237 doubles, 169 home runs, 582 RBI and 385 walks while batting .260 (1086x4179) with a .327 on-base percentage and a .443 slugging mark (.770 OPS) in 1,104 career games. He ranks among the top-10 all-time club leaders in games played (9th), runs scored (9th), hits (6th), doubles (4th), home runs (5th), RBI (8th), walks (8th), on-base percentage (9th), slugging percentage (8th), OPS (9th) and extra-base hits (5th, 417). 
Vogelbach, 25, was recalled from AAA Tacoma on July 20 for his fourth stint with Seattle this season (also: Opening Day - 4/25, 5/22-27 and 6/8-14). Since July 20, he has gone 1-for-4 with 1 RBI in 2 games with the Mariners. Overall this season, he is batting .212 (14x66) with 6 runs, 2 doubles, 2 home runs, 7 RBI, 11 walks and a .342 on-base percentage in 25 games with the Mariners. In 63 games with the Rainiers this season, he is hitting .305 (67x220) with 46 runs, 13 doubles, 16 home runs, 42 RBI, 61 walks, a .456 on-base percentage and a .582 slugging mark (1.038 OPS).
 
Vogelbach made his Major League debut with Seattle in 2016, appearing in 8 games in September. He was acquired from Chicago-NL on July 20, 2016 along with Paul Blackburn (rhp) for Mike Montgomery (lhp) & Jordan Pries (rhp). In parts of 3 seasons with Seattle, he is batting .198 (21x106) with 6 runs scored, 3 doubles, 2 home runs, 9 RBI, 2 HBP and 15 walks in 49 games. Vogelbach was originally selected by Chicago-NL in 2nd round of 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
