Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipotoannounced today the following roster moves:
- David Phelps, RHP, added to the Mariners active Major League roster.
- Max Povse, RHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 7/20).
Phelps (#46) will be in uniform and available for tonight's (7:10 p.m.) game vs. the New York Yankees at Safeco Field.

Over his last 36 games (dating back to April 23), he has a 2.19 ERA (9 ER, 37.0 IP) and a .195 batting average against (25x128) with 39 strikeouts and 19 walks. The 6-foot-2, 198-pound right-hander had a career-long streak of 20.0 innings pitched without allowing an earned run from April 21-June 7. He was acquired yesterday in a 5-player deal that sent minor leaguer outfielder Brayan Hernandez and minor league right-handed pitchers Pablo Lopez, Brandon Miller and Lukas Schiraldi to Miami.
In 2016, Phelps posted career-bests in wins (7), saves (4), strikeouts (114), ERA (2.28), opponents average against (.197) and holds (25). Overall, he was 7-6 with 4 saves and a 2.28 ERA (22 ER, 86.2 IP) with 114 strikeouts and 38 walks in 64 games. Over parts of 6 Major League seasons with the Yankees (2012-14) and Marlins (2015-17), he has a career mark of 28-32 with 5 saves and a 3.90 ERA (236 ER, 545.0 IP) with 509 strikeouts and 211 walks in 218 career games (64 starts).
Povse, 23, allowed 2 unearned runs in 1.0 inning of relief work last night vs. the Yankees after being recalled from Tacoma earlier on Thursday. He has posted a 7.36 ERA (3 ER, 3.2 IP) in 3 relief appearances with the Mariners this season. In 12 games (8 starts) combined between AA Arkansas (4/7-6/17) and AAA Tacoma (7/2-18), Povse is 3-2 with a 4.33 ERA (21 ER, 43.2 IP). The 6-foot-8, 220-pound right-hander was acquired by the Mariners along with RHP Rob Whalen from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for OF Alex Jackson and a Player to be Named Later (LHP Tyler Pike) on Nov. 28, 2016.
