Mariners recall RHP Nick Rumbelow from Triple-A Tacoma

SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:
• Nick Rumbelow, RHP, recalled from AAA Tacoma.
• Ross Detwiler, LHP, designated for assignment.
Rumbelow (#52) will be in uniform and available for today's (1:10 pm PT) game vs. the Houston Astros at Safeco Field.
Seattle has 7 days to trade, release or outright the contract of Detwiler to the minor leagues.
Rumbelow, 26, is appearing in his 4th stint with the Mariners this season (also: 6/14-22, 7/4-12 and 8/9-11). He has made 8 relief appearances with the Mariners in 2018, striking out 8 in 10.1 IP while allowing 9 earned runs (8.16 ERA). Since being optioned to AAA Tacoma post-game on Aug. 11, he was 1-0 with 1 save and a 1.59 ERA (1 ER, 5.2 IP) with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks in 3 relief appearances. Overall, the 6-foot, 190-pound right-hander is 1-0 with 2 saves and a 2.04 ERA (4 ER, 17.2 IP) with 25 strikeouts and 8 walks in 13 outings with Tacoma this season. Rumbelow began the season on the AAA Tacoma disabled list with a brachial plexus injury before being reinstated on June 5.
Rumbelow has appeared in the Majors with New York-AL (2015) and Seattle (2018) and is a combined 1-1 with a 5.54 ERA (16 ER, 26.0 IP) in 25 relief appearances. He was drafted by New York-AL in the 7th round of the 2013 amateur draft out of Louisiana State University. Rumbelow was acquired by the Mariners from the Yankees in exchange for minor leaguers JP Sears (lhp) and Juan Then (rhp) on Nov. 18, 2017.
Detwiler, 32, took the loss in last night's game after allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2 in 6.0 innings of relief. He was selected from AAA Tacoma by the Mariners prior to yesterday's game. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound left-hander was signed by Seattle to a minor league contract on June 2. Prior to his selection, he made 14 appearances (11 starts) with AAA Tacoma, going 2-5 with a 5.15 ERA (41 ER, 71.2 IP). He began the 2018 season pitching with independent York in the Atlantic League and was 3-1, 2.70 (9 ER, 30.0 IP) in 6 starts.
Detwiler has pitched in the Majors in parts of 10 seasons with Washington (2007, 2009-2014), Texas (2015), Atlanta (2015), Cleveland (2016), Oakland (2016) and Seattle (2018). Overall, he has a career MLB mark of 23-42 with a 4.36 ERA (283 ER, 584.0 IP) in 190 games (83 starts). He was a first round pick (6th overall) pick by the Nationals in the 2007 Draft and made his MLB debut that same season, pitching in 1 game.
