SEATTLE – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today the following roster moves:
- Carlos Vargas, RHP, reinstated from 60-day Injured List (right lat strain).
- Nick Davila, RHP, optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.
- Matt Brash, RHP, transferred to 60-day Injured List (right lat strain).
The Mariners 40-man roster remains full at 40 players.
Vargas, 26, was placed on the Injured List on March 27. He will make his 2026 debut when he first appears in a game. Over 4 rehab appearances with Triple-A Tacoma (3 G) and High-A Everett (1 G), he tossed 4.2 scoreless innings with 2 hits allowed, 0 walks and 6 strikeouts.
The Moca, Dominican Republic native made 70 appearances for the Mariners in 2025, going 5-5 with a 3.97 ERA (34 ER, 77.0 IP) with 54 strikeouts and 23 walks. He earned his first Major League win on April 11 vs. Texas and his first MLB save on May 6 at the Athletics. He made his Mariners debut on March 28 vs. the Athletics.
Vargas has appeared in parts of 2 Major League seasons with the Diamondbacks (2023) and Mariners (2025). He was originally signed by the Cleveland Guardians as an international free agent on July 2, 2016 and was acquired by the Mariners on November 22, 2023 along with C Seby Zavala from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for INF Eugenio Suárez.
Davila (DAH-vee-LAH), 27, was recalled on August 7. Overall, this season he is 0-0 with a 4.10 ERA (12 ER, 26.1 IP) with 13 strikeouts and 1 save in 23 appearances for Seattle. Davila earned his first career save on June 9 at Baltimore.
Davila was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Detroit Tigers on July 7, 2020. He signed a minor league contract with the Mariners on March 27, 2023. He has appeared in 6 minor league seasons in the Tigers (2021-22) and Mariners (2023-c) organizations, going a combined 18-30 with a 4.94 ERA (155 ER, 358.2 IP), 107 walks and 345 strikeouts in 129 games (42 starts). Davila was invited to Major League Spring Training this year and appeared in 7 Cactus League games.
The 6-foot-3 right-hander is a Hialeah, Florida native. He played one season at the University of South Florida after transferring from Hillsborough Community College (Tampa, FL).
Brash, 28, is eligible to return from the 60-day Injured List at any time. He was placed on the 15-day Injured list on June 10 (retroactive to June 9). In his 20 MLB appearances this season, Brash is 3-0 with a 0.54 ERA (1 ER, 16.2 IP) with 15 strikeouts and 6 walks.
The right-hander has appeared in 4 Major League seasons with Seattle (2022-c), going 17-11 with 8 saves and a 3.06 ERA (63 ER, 185.1 IP) with 242 strikeouts and 86 walks in 190 games (5 starts). He missed the 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Brash was acquired by Seattle as the “player to be named later” from the San Diego Padres in a deal that sent right-hander Taylor Williams to the Padres on Aug. 31, 2020. Brash has been one of the most effective relief pitchers in the game since joining the Mariners, leading the Majors in appearances (78) in 2023 and going 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA (2 ER, 12.1 IP) in 11 Postseason appearances between 2022 and ’25.
