Miami Marlins announce first signings of 2019 Draft class

Six of Miami’s top 11 selections sign, including second-round pick Nasim Nuñez

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced the first seven signings from the club’s 2019 Draft class, including second-round pick (No. 46 overall) Nasim Nuñez.

Nuñez will take batting practice with the Marlins prior to Monday’s game against St. Louis beginning at 4:00 p.m. and will be available to the media on the field at approximately 5:15 p.m.

Miami also signed OF Peyton Burdick (Round 3, #82 overall), INF Evan Edwards (Round 4, #111), RHP MD Johnson (Round 6, #171), RHP Evan Brabrand (Round 9, #261), OF JD Orr (Round 10, #291), and OF Javeon Cody (Round 15, #441).

Nunez 18, is a switch-hitting shortstop out of Collins Hill High School and a native of Lawrenceville, Georgia. He was rated by Baseball America as the 43rd overall prospect in the 2019 Draft.

Burdick, 21, batted .407 (87x214) with 18 doubles, three triples, 15 home runs, 72 RBI, and 60 walks in 59 games during his redshirt junior season at Wright State. He was named 2019 Horizon League Player of the Year as well as a second-team All-American.
