MIAMI - The Miami Marlins tonight announced that they have acquired two minor league prospects, right-handed starter Merandy Gonzalez and center fielder Ricardo Cespedes, from the New York Mets in exchange for reliever AJ Ramos. The announcement was made by Marlins President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.
Gonzalez, 21, has split time this season between Single-A Columbia in the South Atlantic League and Single-A St. Lucie in the Florida State League. He has combined for a 12-3 record with a 1.78 ERA in 17 starts, working 106.0 innings with 21 earned runs, 21 walks, 89 strikeouts and a .212 opponent batting average. Ranked the Mets' No. 9 prospect by MLB.com, Gonzalez was named the starting pitcher for the South Atlantic League Southern Division All-Star team; he pitched a scoreless first inning with one strikeout. A six-foot, 213-pounder, Gonzalez was originally signed by the Mets out of the Dominican Republic on March 6, 2013.
Cespedes, 19, is ranked as the Mets' No. 22 prospect by MLB.com. A left-handed hitting and throwing center fielder, he has spent time with three teams this season, combining for a .255 average in 29 games, primarily with Brooklyn in the New York Penn League. Born in the Bronx, NY, Cespedes was signed by the Mets out of the Dominican Republic on August 24, 2013.  
Ramos was the Marlins' 21^st-round selection in the 2009 MLB Draft and made his ML debut in 2012. He has a career record of 15-16 with 92 saves in 111 chances for Miami, and he ranks tied for fourth on Miami's all-time saves list.
