Mets acquire Wilmer Font

The New York Mets announced today that the club has acquired RHP Wilmer Font from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Mets transferred outfielder Yoenis Céspedes to the 60-Day Injured List. Font will join the team in San Diego tomorrow when a corresponding 25-man roster move will be made.

Font, 28, was 1-0 with a 5.79 ERA (nine earned run/14.0 innings) and 18 strikeouts in 10 appearances for the Rays this season. He has worked 2.0 or more innings in four of those outings.

The 6-4, 265-pounder was 2-3 with a 5.93 ERA (29 earned runs/44.0 innings) in 19 games, five starts with 36 strikeouts with the Dodgers, Athletics and Rays in 2018. Font had a 1.71 ERA (four earned runs/21.0 innings) in five starts last year.

He is 3-3 with a 6.51 ERA (47 earned runs/65.0 innings) in 37 career major league games, five starts with the Rangers, Dodgers, Athletics and Rays.
