Major League Baseball will host a free, one-day umpire camp at BB&T Ballpark, home of the Charlotte Knights, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, on Saturday, June 23rd. Staff for the event will include many accomplished former MLB Umpires, current MLB Supervisors and Observers, as well as Minor League Baseball and NCAA Officials. Among those participating from the MLB Umpiring Department will be Cris Jones, Chuck Meriwether, Ed Rapuano, Charlie Reliford and Rich Rieker.
This is MLB's second free, one-day umpire camp of 2018 for anyone interested in umpiring in baseball and softball, including those aiming to begin professional careers. The 2018 Umpire Camps will culminate with the MLBUC Professional Mini-Camp, which will be held in late December.
Twenty-two attendees from last year's clinics went on to the MLB Professional Mini-Camp at no cost. Ten of the Ft. Myers attendees in 2017 advanced on MLB scholarships to the two professional umpire schools this past January, and they began their professional careers this month. In addition, over 130 attendees of MLB Umpire Camps have gone on to work in professional baseball since 2006.
