The Washington Nationals selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Edwin Jackson from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday and designated right-handed pitcher Jacob Turner for assignment. Additionally, the Nationals activated left-handed pitcher Sean Doolittle and right-handed pitcher Ryan Madson, acquired Sunday from the Oakland Athletics. Right-handers Austin Adams and Trevor Gott were optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.
Jackson, 33, returns to the Nationals after going 2-0 with a 0.44 ERA (1 ER/20.1 IP) in five games (four starts) with Triple-A Syracuse. He struck out 22 batters while allowing nine hits. He did not surrender a home run. Jackson signed a Minor League contract with Washington on June 16 after beginning the 2017 season in Baltimore's system. He appeared in 12 games with Triple-A Norfolk (3.10 ERA, 2 SV, 17 SO, 1 HR) and three games with the Orioles, posting a 7.20 ERA in 5.0 innings of relief.
A member of Washington's 2012 National League East Division champion squad, Jackson has appeared in 364 Major League games (275 starts) across 15 seasons, going 93-114 with a 4.65 ERA.
Turner, 26, had his contract selected on Monday, his second stint with the Nationals this season. He is 2-3 with a 5.08 ERA in 18 games (two starts) for Washington this season.
Adams, 26, was recalled on July 14 and made his Major League debut the next night against the Cincinnati Reds (0.0 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB).
Gott, 24, appeared in two games during his second stint with the Nationals in 2017. He is 1-0 with a 30.00 ERA in four appearances out of Washington's bullpen in 2017.
