Among qualified NL sluggers in June, Paul finished first in runs scored, hits and batting average; tied for first in home runs and extra-base hits (19); tied for second in RBI; third in on-base percentage (.460) and slugging percentage (.738); and tied for sixth in doubles.u5:p
The 5-time NL All-Star began his month in dominant fashion. During a torrid 11-game stretch from June 4th-15th, Goldschmidt, who earned NL Player of the Week honors for the period ending June 10th, recorded a slash line of .522/.585/1.087 with 15 runs scored, 24 hits, 6 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs and 14 RBI to lead Arizona to an 8-3 record. On June 9th against the Colorado Rockies, the 30-year-old went 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored, a pair of home runs and 4 RBI. The multi-homer outing was his second in as many days, matching the Club record with back-to-back 2-homer contests. In addition, the performance was his fourth consecutive game with at least 3 hits, establishing a franchise record. "Goldy" became the fifth player since 1908 to tally at least 2 extra-base hits and 2 RBI in 4 consecutive games, joining Frank Howard (May 12-16, 1968), Hall of Famer Frank Robinson (September 19-22, 1966), Vic Wertz (July 28-August 1, 1950) and Chet Laabs (July 15-17, 1942). Following his outstanding month at the plate, Arizona's eighth-round selection in the 2009 MLB Draft became just the second player in Club history to register at least 25 runs scored, 8 doubles and 10 home runs in a single calendar month, joining his former teammate J.D. Martinez, who logged 26 runs scored, 16 homers and 8 doubles during his award-winning month in September 2017. Led in large part by their slugging first baseman, Arizona collected 19 wins during the month of June and enter play today leading the NL West with a 47-37 (.560) mark on the season.u5:p
Others receiving votes for NL Player of the Month included first baseman Jesús Aguilar (.313, 6 2B, 10 HR, 24 RBI) of the Milwaukee Brewers; All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado (.283, 21 R, 6 2B, 9 HR) of the Rockies; first baseman José Martínez (.314, 14 R, 8 HR, 21 RBI) of the St. Louis Cardinals; and All-Star shortstop Brandon Crawford (.326, 14 R, 14 XBH, 14 RBI) of the San Francisco Giants.u5:p
