Pirates announce 2021 regular season schedule

The Pittsburgh Pirates today released their 2021 regular season schedule, which will feature the Bucs opening the season in Chicago for three games against the Cubs beginning on Thursday, April 1. It will mark the 22nd time that the Pirates will begin their season against the Cubs (first time in Chicago since 2011) and the fifth straight season in which they will start the season on the road.

Following the season-opening series at Chicago from April 1-4, the Pirates will close out their first road trip of the season with a three-game series at Cincinnati from April 5-7. The Pirates are scheduled to play the Cubs in the Home Opener on Thursday, April 8. The Bucs will also host the San Diego Padres for four games during the first homestand of the year from April 12-15.

The Pirates’ 2021 interleague schedule will feature visits by the Kansas City Royals (April 27-28), Cleveland Indians (June 18-20), Chicago White Sox (June 22-23) and Detroit Tigers (September 6-8).

Other highlights of the 2021 regular season schedule include:

  • April 27 thru May 2: The Pirates host the Royals for two games followed by a three-game series against NL Central rival St. Louis Cardinals from April 30 thru May 2.
  • July 1 thru July 7: A seven-game homestand against the Milwaukee Brewers and Atlanta Braves, including a July 4 contest against the Brewers.
  • July 27 thru August 1: A six-game homestand highlighted by a three-game series against cross-state rival Philadelphia from July 30 thru August 1.
  • September 6 thru September 16: A nine-game homestand vs. Detroit, Washington and Cincinnati. The September 6 game against Detroit will take place on Labor Day.
  • September 28 thru October 3: The Pirates close out the 2021 campaign with a six-game homestand against the Cubs and Reds.
