Pirates claim pitcher Jake Barrett off waivers from Giants

March 1st, 2019

The Pittsburgh Pirates today claimed right-handed pitcher Jake Barrett off waivers from the San Francisco Giants. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.

The 27-year-old Barrett has a career record of 2-4 with four saves and a 4.05 ERA (93.1ip/42er) in 103 appearances in the big leagues with Arizona from 2016-18. He was acquired by San Francisco from Arizona earlier this year on February 5 for cash considerations.

Barrett was selected by Arizona in the third round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. He made his Major League debut in 2016 with the Diamondbacks, where he went 1-2 with four saves and a 3.49 ERA in 68 appearances.

To make room for Barrett on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Chad Kuhl has been placed on the 60-day injured list.
