The Pittsburgh Pirates today claimed left-handed pitcher Nik Turley off waivers from the Minnesota Twins.
The 28-year-old Turley posted a combined 5-5 record with a 2.05 ERA (92.0ip/21er), 124 strikeouts, 29 walks and .198 batting average against in 23 appearances (13 starts) between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Rochester this past season. He also went 0-2 with an 11.21 ERA (17.2ip/22er) and 13 strikeouts in 10 appearances (three starts) over four separate stints with the Twins in 2017.
Turley was originally selected by New York (AL) in the 50th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. He has recorded a 52-47 record, three complete games, one shutout, two saves, a 3.43 ERA and 769 strikeouts in 176 appearances (139 starts) at the minor league level during his career.
