Pirates homestand highlights April 19-25

April 18th, 2019

The Pirates return to PNC Park for the second homestand of the season, a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants and a four-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Bucs return home following a three-city, eight-game road trip in Chicago, Washington and Detroit. The homestand is highlighted by the Pittsburgh Pirates Home Run 5K/10K as well as First Responders Night on Saturday, April 20; the first Pup Night of 2019 on Tuesday, April 23; and Education Day on Thursday, April 25.

Friday, April 19, 2019 – Pirates vs. San Francisco Giants (7:05 p.m.)

• First Responders Visit: Today from 11 a.m.- 12:30 p.m., Pirates players will visit two City of Pittsburgh Fire
Bureaus to deliver lunch and visit with local firefighters. The morning will include stops to visit Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Station 30 and Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Station 37 in advance of Saturday’s First Responders Night at PNC Park.

• Free Shirt Friday: Tonight, the Pirates host another popular Free Shirt Friday as the first 20,000 fans, with paid admission, will receive a Pirates tee, presented by Mrs. T’s.

• Dollar Dog Night: As a special thank you to the fans, the Pirates have brought back Dollar Dog Nights, presented by Sugardale, on select Friday nights. During each Dollar Dog Night, fans can visit any North Shore concession stand throughout the ballpark and purchase regular hot dogs for just one dollar.

• Miller Lite Happy Hour: Tonight, and every Friday Night home game, the Pirates will host a special Happy Hour, presented by Miller Lite, at the Crow’s Nest from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Visit the Arnold Palmer Spiked Bar at the Crow’s Nest for discounted cans of Miller Lite, Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy, Blue Moon and Arnold Palmer Spiked.

• Pirates Jackie Robinson Day Recognition Ceremony: On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson broke Baseball’s
color barrier when he made his historic MLB debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Every year on April 15, Baseball honors Jackie’s legacy by celebrating his life, values and accomplishments. Earlier this week, all teams proudly wore “42”, demonstrating a powerful, unified tribute to the legacy of the great Jackie Robinson. Tonight, the Pirates celebrate by recognizing:

o Most Valuable Diverse Business Partner: Tonight, in a special pregame ceremony the Pirates will
acknowledge the team’s 2019 Jackie Robinson Centennial Most Valuable Diverse Business Partner, New
Pittsburgh Courier, followed by hosting the group in the Pirates Charities Suite. Legendary Pittsburgh
Courier sports writer Wendell Smith was instrumental in empowering General Manager Branch Rickey to
sign Robinson to a contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1946. Wendell Smith’s story as Robinson’s
chauffer, confidant and friend was finally told in the Jackie Robinson movie “42.” In 1998, Commissioner
Allan H. (Bud) Selig, authorized the creation of the Diverse Business Partner (DBP) program, an
economically driven business initiative established to cultivate new and existing partnerships with diverseowned businesses to participate in the procurement activities of MLB.

Saturday, April 20, 2019 – Pirates vs. San Francisco Giants (4:05 p.m.)

• Game Time Change: Today’s game was originally scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with a Zambelli Fireworks show to follow. Due to the national television schedule, the first pitch time was changed to 4:05 p.m. and the fireworks display was moved to postgame on Saturday, May 4.

• Happy Hour: Today, the Pirates will host a special Happy Hour, presented by Miller Lite, at the Crow’s Nest from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Fans can visit the Arnold Palmer Spiked Bar at the Crow’s Nest for $2 cans of Strawberry Lemonade Cape Line, live music and more.

• First Responders Night: The Pittsburgh Pirates will show appreciation and gratitude for the men and women of Pennsylvania who serve as law enforcement officers, corrections officers, public safety, firefighters, paramedics, EMTs and other area first responders during our First Responders Night at PNC Park. Invited are friends, family and the general public to PNC Park for a pregame event on Federal Street to celebrate all of our First Responders. And all First Responders who purchase tickets through pirates.com/firstresponders will receive a special co-branded EMS, firefighters, or law enforcement Pirates cap with their ticket purchase. In addition, proceeds from each ticket will benefit one of three first responder organizations, including the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the National EMS Memorial Fund.

• Pittsburgh Pirates 5K/10K: Today, the Pirates will host the “Pittsburgh Pirates Home Run 5K/10K,” presented by Allegheny Health Network and Highmark. The SOLD OUT morning event, benefitting Pirates Charities, will be held on Pittsburgh’s North Shore, with the 5K and 10K beginning together at 7:30 a.m. The top finishers from each category will be recognized in a pregame on-field ceremony during Runners Night on July 19 and all participants will receive a special medal as they cross home plate at PNC Park. Sunday, April 21, 2019 – Pirates vs. San Francisco Giants (1:35 p.m.) Kids Day at PNC Park

• Kids Day: Come down early and join the fun as the Family Fun Zone will be open on Federal Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lined up outside PNC Park will be inflatable rides, baseball games, face painting, information about the Bucaroos Kids Club, presented by Chick-fil-A, and more.

• Kids Drawstring: Today, all kids ages 14 and younger, with paid admission, will receive a special Pirates drawstring bag, presented by MLB Network.

• Kids Run the Bases: Kids attending today’s game are invited to stick around after to run the bases on the field at PNC Park with the Kids Run the Bases, presented by Rivendale Farms.

Monday, April 22, 2019 — Pirates vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (7:05 p.m.)

• Make-a-Wish: Today, the Pirates will partner with Make-a-Wish of Greater Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia to host Giorgia, a 10-year-old from Italy, and her friends and family for a day at the ballpark. Georgia is in Pittsburgh as she awaits a small intestine transplant and her wish is to spend time with her best friends whom she has not seen in almost four years. Make-a-Wish is providing travel and accommodations for four of her friends and their parents as they make the trip from Italy to spend the week with Giorgia, and she specifically wants to show them American baseball because her older brother loves going to PNC Park. During their visit, the group will watch batting practice on the field, meet with catcher Francisco Cervelli and watch the game from a luxury suite with dinner provided by Aramark. In addition, Giorgia loves to cook for her family, so she will join with Aramark chefs to learn their favorite recipes and tour the Aramark kitchen.

Tuesday, April 23, 2019 — Pirates vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (7:05 p.m.)

• Pup Night: Fans can enjoy Bucco baseball with their pooch as the Pirates present the first of 12 Pup Nights at PNC Park. Each ticket package (1 person & 1 dog) costs just $36 with additional human tickets available for $36 each. • Pittsburgh Cities of Inclusion Summit: Today, the Pirates and Pirates Charities will host the Pittsburgh Cities of Inclusion Summit from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Hyundai Club. The Summit is presented by Special Olympics Pennsylvania and will bring together individuals, city officials, corporate and community leaders to jointly create a vision for Pittsburgh as an “inclusive city.” Being an “inclusive city” is defined as providing access and opportunities for everyone, regardless of their abilities, to take part in employment, education, health, housing, and to access community services. Pirates and Pirates Charities Chairman Bob Nutting will provide remarks during the opening of the conference and Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto and Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald will also participate in the day-long Summit.

• Pirates Play Ball Team of the Game: The Pirates continue the season-long initiative honoring a youth baseball/softball team(s) of the game during every Tuesday home game. Tonight, the Pirates will honor the Pittsburgh Urban Impact as the Play Ball Team of the Game, presented by Nike.

Thursday, April 25, 2019 — Pirates vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (12:35 p.m.)

• Military Day: Come out to support and honor our brave American military service men and women. The Pirates will wear their new Military Day jerseys and special caps.

• On Field Military Ceremony: As part of tonight’s Military Day efforts, a group from Operation Homefront will be honored during a pregame on-field ceremony and hosted in the Pirates Charities Suite. Operation Homefront is a national nonprofit with local programming throughout Allegheny County, whose mission is to build strong, stable and secure military families so they can thrive—not simply struggle to get by—in the communities they have worked so hard to protect.

• 50/50 Raffle: Tonight’s Pirates Charities 50/50 Raffle, supported by Rivers Casino, will benefit Operation Homefront.

• Education Day: The Pittsburgh Pirates Education Days combine science, math, geography and history to create a fun and educational opportunity at PNC Park. Today, Education Day will begin at 9:30 a.m. as WPXI’s Stephen Cropper and the National Weather Service’s Fred Redden will give a live interactive weather presentation on the PNC Park scoreboard. When PNC Park gates open at 11 a.m., each student will be given an interactive workbook as their teachers guide them through the ballpark on a treasure hunt. Students will visit several locations throughout PNC Park including Legacy Square, ballpark concession stands and the weather station located behind center field. They will search for answers to a variety of questions about baseball, science, math, history, and geography. Students can continue to collect information throughout the game and answer questions pertaining to baseball statistics about Pirates players. Pirates Charities 50/50 Raffles

The Pirates Charities 50/50 Raffle, supported by Rivers Casino, is back for the 2019 season. The 50/50 Raffles will take place during each Pirates home game throughout the season. Raffle ticket prices are two (2) tickets for $5, 5 tickets for $10, 20 tickets for $20 and 80 tickets for $40 with all proceeds benefiting Pirates Charities. Raffle ticket sales close after the last out in the sixth inning. The winning number will be drawn and announced in the 8th inning and the winner will receive 50 percent of the total pot.
