Pirates Return to PNC Park for the Fifth Homestand of 2019

This homestand is highlighted by Free Shirt Friday and Dollar Dog Night on Friday, May 31; Chris Archer Bobblehead Day on Saturday, June 1; and Kids Day on Sunday, June 2 with free ice cream for kids 14 and under. In addition, the Pirates will host an African American Heritage Celebration at the ballpark Friday through Sunday with a special memorabilia exhibit that includes many Negro League items.

You Score Promotion

During the recent series in Cincinnati, the Pirates announced the return of the popular fan-value “You Score as the Bucs Score” promotion, offering fans the opportunity to save each time the Pirates score. As part of the promotion, fans receive a discount depending on the total Pirates runs scored during the four-game series. The Pirates scored 22 runs during the four-game series and now discounted tickets are available at pirates.com/YouScore for most seating sections during this entire homestand, while supplies last. 

Thursday, May 30, 2019—Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers (7:05 p.m.)

  • Military Day: Come out to support and honor our brave American military service men and women. The Pirates will wear their Military Day jerseys and special caps.

·        On Field Military Ceremony: As part of today’s Military Day efforts, a group from the Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs will be honored during a pregame on-field ceremony and hosted in the Pirates Charities Suite.

·        50/50 Raffle: Today’s Pirates Charities 50/50 Raffle, supported by Rivers Casino, will benefit Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs.

  • University Night with IUP: Tonight, the Pirates will host University Night with Indiana University of Pennsylvania. All fans who purchase University Night tickets will receive a ticket in one of two special sections and a Pirates/IUP hat. This season the Pirates will host 11 University Nights on select dates. Students, alumni, staff and fans of local universities are invited to cheer on the Pirates together at PNC Park. ·        Pirates African American Heritage Celebration:

o   Memorabilia Exhibit: Tonight, as part of the Pirates African American Heritage celebration weekend, the Pirates will host the Negro League Baseball Memorabilia Exhibit in the Jim Beam Left Field Lounge from the time gates open through the end of the sixth inning. Included in the exhibit is Josh Gibson’s 1946 Negro League contract, an East vs West All-Stars autographed baseball, a 1935 Pittsburgh Crawfords jersey and more.

o   Meet and Greet: Pirates alumni Al Oliver will be signing autographs in the Jim Beam Left Field Lounge from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

·        Free Shirt Friday: Tonight, the Pirates host another popular Free Shirt Friday as the first 20,000 fans, with paid admission, will receive a Pirates Felipe “Nightmare” Vazquez tee, presented by Vitalant.

·        Dollar Dog Night: As a special thank you to the fans, the Pirates will host Dollar Dog Nights, presented by Sugardale, on select Friday nights. During each Dollar Dog Night, fans can visit any North Shore concession stand throughout the ballpark and purchase regular hot dogs for just one dollar.

  • Miller Lite Happy Hour: Tonight, and every Friday Night home game, the Pirates will host a special Happy Hour, presented by Miller Lite, at the Crow’s Nest from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Visit the Arnold Palmer Spiked Bar at the Crow’s Nest for live music by guitarist Michael Todd, as well as discounted cans of Miller Lite, Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy, Blue Moon and Arnold Palmer Spiked.
  • BELLieve: Tonight, the Pirates will host a Vote Pirates All-Star voting activation station in the Clemente Wall with a special pregame vote party. Fans can stop by to prove they voted for a chance to win some items courtesy of the Pirates. In addition, fans had the chance to buy a special ticket package earlier this week to show their support for Josh Bell and the #BELLieve All-Star campaign. The ticket package includes a gold BELLieve tee and a seat in the section 142-145 seating area.

Saturday, June 1, 2019 – Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers (4:05 p.m.)

·        Pirates African American Heritage Celebration:

o   Bring it Home! Breakfast: In celebration of African-American heritage in sports, the Pirates are hosting a special Bring it Home! Breakfast in the PNC Park Hyundai Club for 150 area youth and professionals from the Pittsburgh Pirates RBI teams, Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh, the Josh Gibson Foundation, Young Black and Educated, and more. The morning event will feature Pirates Senior Vice President Brian Colbert, Director of Professional Scouting Steve Williams, Assistant General Manager Kevan Graves, alumni Al Oliver as well as special guest emcee WTAE anchor Andrew Stockey.

o   Memorabilia Exhibit: Today, as part of the Pirates African American Heritage celebration weekend, the Pirates will host the Negro League Baseball Memorabilia Exhibit in the Jim Beam Left Field Lounge from the time gates open through the end of the sixth inning. o   Negro League Celebration: As part of the African American Heritage Celebration, the Pirates and Brewers will honor Negro League baseball by wearing the uniforms of Negro League teams from their respective cities, with the Pirates wearing Pittsburgh Crawfords uniforms and the Brewers wearing the Milwaukee Bears uniforms.

o   Group Salute: The Pirates will host a group salute acknowledging representatives from the Carnegie Museum of Art’s Teenie Harris Archives as a thank you for their support in celebrating the legacy of Negro League Baseball and its legendary players and coaches. Charles “Teenie” Harris (1908–1998) photographed Pittsburgh’s African American community from 1935 to 1975. By photographing daily life of African Americans from within the Pittsburgh community, Teenie Harris created a complex chronicle of Black life in America. As a result, his archive of nearly 80,000 images is one of the most detailed and intimate records of the African American experience known today.

o   NEED Scholar Presentation: Today, in a pregame on-field ceremony, the Pirates will host the check presentation for three NEED scholars. NEED's vision is to be a catalyst for change that transforms the outcomes of underserved youth in the Greater Pittsburgh area by developing college bound, civic-minded leaders.

·        Archer Bobble: Today, the first 20,000 fans with paid admission will receive a Chris Archer Bobblehead, presented by Allegheny Health Network.

·        Cornhole Classic: Today, the Pirates will host the fourth annual Cornhole Tournament, courtesy of Steel City Cornhole, a double-elimination style tournament on Federal Street starting at noon.   • University Night with Robert Morris: Today, the Pirates will host University Night with Robert Morris University. All fans who purchase University Night tickets will receive a ticket in one of two special sections and a Pirates/RMU hat. Sunday, June 2, 2019 – Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers (1:35 p.m.) Kids Day at PNC Park

·        Play Ball: A special Play Ball morning on-field event will take place today at PNC Park and include interactive baseball/softball related activities including hitting, defensive stations, pitching in the bullpen, and more. Each station will be led by Pittsburgh RBI coaches and senior select players. Play Ball is free of charge and is open to all area youth ages 5 to 13 years of age; advanced registration is required and all spots will be filled on a first-come-first served basis. To register, please visit pirates.com/playball2019

·        Pirates African American Heritage Celebration:

·        Kids Day: Come down early and join the fun as the Family Fun Zone will be open on Federal Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lined up outside PNC Park will be inflatable rides, baseball games, face painting, information about the Bucaroos Kids Club, presented by Chick-fil-A, and more.

·        Kids Free Ice Cream: Today, all kids ages 14 and younger, with paid admission, will receive a voucher for a free eight-ounce cup of Rivendale Pirates Treasure ice cream during the game.

·        Kids Run the Bases: Kids attending today’s game are invited to stick around after to run the bases on the field at PNC Park with the Kids Run the Bases, presented by Rivendale Farms.

·        Girl Scouts Day: Today the Pirates present Girl Scouts Day at PNC Park, a celebration of area Girl Scouts and their families and friends. Participating Girl Scouts will also receive a Pittsburgh Pirates Girl Scout Day patch. For tickets and more information, visit pirates.com/girlscouts.

·        Children’s Institute’s VIP Party: Today, 12 graduates of the Children’s Institute’s Day School will receive the VIP treatment at PNC Park. Prior to the game, Pirates Charities will host the group for a meet and greet with Clint Hurdle and the Pirate Parrot in the PNC Park Press Conference Room. The students and their families will then enjoy the afternoon game from PNC Park’s World Series Suites.

Monday, June 3, 2019 – Off Day

·        Today from noon to 2:30 p.m., the Pirates present "The Other Boys of Summer" by Lauren Meyers, at the Carnegie Museum of Art. The documentary explores civil rights in America through the lives of the Negro League baseball players. Harold Hayes will serve as emcee of the program and lead a discussion with nearly 150 youth and staff from Manchester Academic Charter School, Propel Homestead and Pittsburgh Obama 6-12.

Tuesday, June 4, 2019 — Pirates vs. Atlanta Braves (7:05 p.m.)

·        Pup Night: Fans can enjoy Bucco baseball with their pooch as the Pirates present one of 12 Pup Nights at PNC Park. Each ticket package (1 person & 1 dog) costs just $36 with additional human tickets available for $36 each. A portion of the proceeds benefit local animal shelters and seats are limited and subject to availability. ·        Pirates Play Ball Team of the Game: The Pirates continue the season-long initiative honoring a youth baseball/softball team of the game during every Tuesday home game. Tonight, the Pirates will honor Cornerstone Prep Wildcats as the Play Ball Team of the Game, presented by Nike.

  • Education Day: The Pittsburgh Pirates Education Days combine science, math, geography and history to create a fun and educational opportunity at PNC Park. When PNC Park gates open at 11 a.m., each student will be given an interactive workbook as their teachers guide them through the ballpark on a treasure hunt. Students will visit several locations throughout PNC Park including Legacy Square, ballpark concession stands and the weather station located behind center field. They will search for answers to a variety of questions about baseball, science, math, history, and geography. Students can continue to collect information throughout the game and answer questions pertaining to baseball statistics about Pirates players.   • Check Your Blind Spots: Today in Lot 4, located at the corner of Mazeroski Way and General Robinson, the CEO Action’s Check Your Blind Spots Tour Bus will be on hand beginning at 10:30 a.m. The tour bus is designed to give people the opportunity to learn about and explore ways to mitigate unconscious bias in their everyday lives. Through a series of immersive and interactive elements, participants are exposed to the nuances of unconscious bias, and also have the chance to sign the I Act On pledge to address personal biases and drive inclusive behaviors.

Diaz Shoe Drive

Pirates catcher Elias Diaz has partnered with Pirates Charities to launch his “Shoes for Venezuela” campaign, a shoe drive held throughout PNC Park to benefit youth of Diaz’s home country of Venezuela. Starting today, Thursday, May 30, and lasting through Wednesday, June 19, fans are encouraged to bring new shoes to the donation bins placed at one of the six Pirates Charites 50/50 Raffle kiosks around the ballpark. As a special thank you, all fans who donate a pair of new shoes during the drive will receive an invite to an Elias Diaz meet and greet on June 20 at a Pittsburgh area shoe store.

Pirates Charities 50/50 Raffles

The Pirates Charities 50/50 Raffle, supported by Rivers Casino, will take place during each Pirates home game throughout the season. Raffle ticket prices are two (2) tickets for $5, 5 tickets for $10, 20 tickets for $20 and 80 tickets for $40 with all proceeds benefiting Pirates Charities. Raffle ticket sales close after the last out in the sixth inning. The winning number will be drawn and announced in the 8th inning and the winner will receive 50 percent of the total pot.
