OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Sergio Romo on a one-year contract, the club announced today. The A’s also announced that infielder Nate Orf has retired.

Romo has pitched for 13 seasons in the majors and is 41-34 with 134 saves, a 2.95 ERA and .212 opponents batting average in 732 career appearances. He spent the 2020 season with Minnesota where he was 1-2 with five saves and a 4.05 ERA in 24 relief outings. The right-hander, who turns 38 on March 4, struck out 23 in 20.0 innings for the Twins last year and yielded a .211 opponents average. Romo made his Major League debut with San Francisco in 2008 and spent nine seasons with the Giants, winning World Championships in 2010, 12 and 14. He has also pitched for the Dodgers (2017), Rays (2017-18), Marlins (2019) and Twins (2019-20) in his career. Romo is tied for third among active pitchers in games pitched.

Orf was part of the A’s 60-man player pool last year and went 0-for-7 in six games with Oakland following a Sept. 13 call-up. He was originally signed by Milwaukee as a non-drafted free agent following the 2013 draft and spent the first seven seasons of his professional career in the Brewers organization before signing a minor league deal with the A’s following the 2019 season. The 31-year-old Orf made his Major League debut with Milwaukee in 2018 and went 2-for-28 (.071) in 21 games in his career.
