A’s place INF Machín on the injured list; select INF Kozma from Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s placed infielder Vimael Machín on the 10-day injured list with a stomach illness (not COVID 19 related), the club announced today. To take his spot on the roster the A’s have selected infielder Pete Kozma from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Machín was recalled from Las Vegas on Sunday for his fourth stint with the A’s this year and went 1-for-4 in two games. He batted .125 with one RBI in 15 games overall with Oakland and had a .295 average, 17 doubles, six triples, 11 home runs and 58 RBI in 89 games with Las Vegas.

Kozma spent the entire season at Las Vegas where he batted .244 with four home runs and 40 RBI in 113 games. He started 90 games at shortstop, 18 at second base and four at designated hitter. The 33-year-old right-handed hitter returns to the majors for the first time since 2018 when he hit .217 in 27 games with Detroit. Kozma is a .215 career hitter with five home runs and 62 RBI in 341 games in seven seasons in the majors with St. Louis (2011-15), New York-AL (2017), Texas (2017) and Detroit (2018).
