OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s placed left-handed pitcher A.J. Puk on the 10-day injured list retroactive to April 7 with a strained left biceps and selected right-handed pitcher Deolis Guerra from their alternate site, the club announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A’s transferred right-handed pitcher Trevor Rosenthal to the 60-day IL.
Puk was recalled from the A’s alternate site on April 5 and pitched 3.1 scoreless innings of relief that day against the Dodgers in his only outing. He was 1-0 with a 5.87 ERA and .222 opponents batting average in three games, including two starts, this spring before he was optioned to the A’s alternate site April 1.
Guerra was a non-roster invitee with Oakland this spring and did not allow a run in seven games and 6.2 innings. Opponents went 3-for-22 (.136) and he struck out 12 batters in 6.2 innings. The 31-year-old right-hander appeared in nine games for Philadelphia last year and was 1-3 with an 8.59 ERA. Guerra is 8-5 with a 4.81 ERA in 83 relief appearances over five seasons with Pittsburgh (2015), Los Angeles-AL (2016-17), Milwaukee (2019) and the Phillies (2020).
