OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s placed right-handed pitcher Angel Felipe on the paternity list and selected right-handed pitcher Chad Smith from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.
Felipe was recalled from Las Vegas on July 7 and has a win and a 1.52 ERA in five relief appearances in his Major League debut with the A’s. He has held the opposition to a .095 batting average, walked four and struck out six in 6.1 innings. Felipe was claimed off waivers from San Diego on June 21.
Smith joins the A’s for the third time this year and is 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA in nine relief appearances over his first two stints. He has a .304 opponents batting average and has walked six while striking out nine in 12.0 innings. The 28-year-old right-hander has spent the balance of the season at Las Vegas where he is 0-2 with three saves and a 7.88 ERA in 23 relief appearances. Smith did not allow an earned run over his final six appearances with the Aviators (5.1 ip, 5 h, 1 r, 6 bb, 6 so).
