OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s have reinstated outfielder Ramón Laureano from the 10-day injured list and reinstated right-handed pitcher Angel Felipe from the paternity list, the club announced today. To clear space on the active roster, right-handed pitcher Chad Smith was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Laureano was batting .213 with five home runs, 17 RBI and a .635 OPS in 56 games with the A’s before being placed on the injured list with a fractured right hand on June 23, retroactive to June 22. It was his second stint on the IL as he was previously out from April 17 to 28 with a strained left hamstring. Laureano had a four-game rehab stint with Las Vegas, going 4-for-12 with a double, a home run and four walks in four starts in right field.
Felipe was 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA in five relief appearances in his Major League debut with the A’s when he was placed on the paternity list on July 22. He was claimed off waivers from San Diego on June 21 and was recalled by the A’s on July 7.
Smith made one appearance in his third stint with the A’s this season, allowing one run over 1.2 innings pitched against Houston on Sunday. Overall, he is 1-2 with a 6.59 ERA in 10 games with Oakland this year. Smith has spent the balance of the season at Las Vegas where he is 0-2 with three saves and a 7.88 ERA in 23 relief appearances.
