OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics selected catcher Shea Langeliers and recalled infielder David MacKinnon from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today. The A’s also placed outfielder Ramón Laureano on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Aug. 15 with a strained left oblique and released outfielder Stephen Piscotty.
Langeliers was acquired from the Atlanta Braves with Cristian Pache, Ryan Cusick and Joey Estes for Matt Olson on March 14. He is batting .283 with 19 home runs, 56 RBI and an .876 OPS in 92 games with Las Vegas. The 24-year-old right-handed hitter is tied for seventh in the Pacific Coast League in home runs, ranks eighth in total bases (180), 10th in hits (100) and tied for 10th in extra base hits (40). Langeliers was named MVP of the Futures Game after going 1-for-2 with a home run and RBI and is rated as the A’s Top Prospect by MLB.com. He is a .266 career hitter with 43 home runs and 153 RBI in 243 games in three seasons in the minors.
MacKinnon began the season at Triple-A Salt Lake in the Los Angeles (AL) organization and was selected by the Angels on June 18. He went 7-for-37 (.189) with five walks and six RBI in 16 games in his Major League debut before he was optioned on July 22. The 27-year-old right-handed hitter was batting .324 with 14 home runs and 45 RBI in 63 games with the Bees when he was designated for assignment on Aug. 2 and claimed off waivers by Oakland on Aug. 5. MacKinnon was 12-for-32 (.375) with a home run and five RBI in eight games with Las Vegas and is batting .331 overall at Triple-A, which is the best mark in the PCL. He also leads the PCL in on-base percentage (.430), slugging (.619) and OPS (1.049). MacKinnon made six starts at first base for the Angels and has 59 starts at first, eight at designated hitter and four at third base in the minors.
Laureano was batting .223 with 12 home runs, 29 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 84 games with the A’s. He was hitting .186 over his last 30 games but had 10 home runs and 20 RBI over his last 38 games after tallying two home runs and nine RBI over his first 46 contests.
Piscotty was batting .190 with five home runs and 14 RBI in 42 games in his fifth season with Oakland. He was acquired by the A’s from St. Louis following the 2017 season and hit .245 with 55 home runs and 191 RBI in 403 games in an Oakland uniform. The 31-year-old holds the Athletics record for consecutive errorless games by an outfielder with 291. Piscotty also spent three seasons with the Cardinals and is a .255 career hitter with 93 home runs, 354 RBI and a .754 OPS in 726 career games.
