Angels Acquire RHP Lucas Giolito & RHP Reynaldo López

LHP Ky Bush and C Edgar Quero traded to White Sox

ANAHEIM – The Angels today acquired RHP Lucas Giolito and RHP Reynaldo López from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor league LHP Ky Bush and C Edgar Quero.

Giolito, 29, is in his eighth Major League season and seventh with the White Sox. In 21 starts this season, he has gone 6-6 with a 3.79 ERA (121 IP – 51 ER) and his 131 strikeouts rank 10th in the American League. Since the start of June, he has allowed two-or-fewer earned runs in seven of his nine starts and ranks sixth in the A.L. with a .211 (41/194) BAA.

A native of Santa Monica, CA, Giolito was a first round selection (16th overall) in the 2012 Draft out of Harvard-Westlake HS in Los Angeles. He finished sixth in A.L. Cy Young Award voting in 2019, was seventh in 2020 and pitched a no-hitter on Aug. 25, 2020 vs. Pittsburgh. In 168 career games (166 starts), he has gone 59-53 with a 4.26 ERA (950.1 IP – 450 ER) and 1,004 strikeouts across his eight seasons with the Nationals (2016) and White Sox (2017-23).

López, 29, has appeared in 43 games in relief for the White Sox this season going 2-5 with a 4.29 ERA (42 IP – 20 ER) and four saves. Over his last 24 outings, the right-hander has fashioned a 1.75 ERA (25.2 IP – 5 ER), including a current streak of eight straight games without allowing a run. His 1.75 ERA since May 14th ranks sixth in the American League (min. 25 IP) while his .148 (13/103) BAA in that same span ranks second. Over eight big league seasons with the Nationals (2016) and White Sox (2017-23), López owns a lifetime 38-47 record with a 4.42 ERA (655.2 IP – 322 ER).

Bush, 23, has spent time with the ACL Angels and Double-A Rocket City in 2023, combining to go 1-4 with a 7.20 ERA (30 IP – 24 ER). The left-hander is 8-10 with a 4.47 ERA (145 IP – 72 ER) in three minor league seasons.

Quero, 20, owns a .245 (62/253) average with three home runs and 35 RBI with Double-A Rocket City this season. The backstop has appeared in 219 minor league games across three minor league seasons for the Angels, batting .280 (220/787) with 25 home runs.
