HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have acquired C Christian Vázquez from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for minor league IF Enmanuel Valdez and OF Wilyer Abreu. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager James Click.
Vázquez, 31, batted .282 (83x294) with 20 doubles, eight home runs, 42 RBI and a .759 OPS with the Red Sox this season. During his eight-year career (2014-22) with the Red Sox, Vázquez batted .262 (610x2329) with 54 home runs, 124 doubles, 275 runs, 266 RBI and a .700 OPS.
Abreu, 23, batted .249 (82x329) with 81 runs, 15 home runs, 54 RBI, 23 stolen bases and a .858 OPS in 89 games with Double A Corpus Christi this season. During his minor league career (2017-22), he’s batted .256 (273x1066) with 33 home runs, 149 RBI, 66 doubles and a .781 OPS.
Valdez, 23, batted .327 (107x327) with 21 home runs, 77 RBI and a 1.016 OPS in 82 games between Double A Corpus Christi and Triple A Sugar Land this season. For his minor league career (2016-22), he’s batted .259 (421x1627) with 112 doubles, 290 RBI, 72 home runs, 38 stolen bases and a .811 OPS.
