HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Astros have acquired minor league outfielder Logan Cerny from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for catcher Garrett Stubs, General Manager James Click announced today.

Cerny, 22, appeared in a combined 13 games in centerfield for the Class A Clearwater Phillies and the Florida Coast League Phillies in 2021, hitting .200 (7x35) with a double, triple, two RBI and eight walks with six stolen bases. Cerny was selected by the Phillies in the 10th round of the 2021 First Year Player Draft after starring at Troy University in Alabama. At Troy this season, Cerny earned All-Sun Belt First Team honors, hitting .332 in 51 games with 17 doubles, four triples and 15 home runs with a .694 slugging pct. and a 1.118 OPS.

Stubbs, 28, played in 18 games for the Astros this season, making seven starts, all at catcher. The Astros eighth round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, Stubbs has played in Major League games in each of the last three seasons (2019-21), appearing in 51 games overall for Houston. In addition to catching, Stubbs has also appeared in 12 games in the outfield in his Major League career.

As a result of Stubbs being traded, the Astros now have 39 players on their 40-man roster.
