HOUSTON, TX - Today, the Houston Astros have agreed to terms on a minor league contract with outfielder Jose Siri. The deal includes an invitation to Major League Spring Training. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager James Click.

Siri, 25, did not appear in an official game in 2020, splitting his calendar year between the Reds, Mariners and Giants organizations. He was claimed off waivers twice in 2020, ultimately finishing his season at the Giants Alternate Training site. A native of the Dominican Republic, Siri is currently playing in the Dominican Winter League for the Gigantes, hitting .281 (27x96) with six doubles, two homers and 11 RBI in 24 games.

Originally signed by the Reds as an international free agent in 2012, Siri checked in as a top-10 prospect for the Reds in both 2018 (#7) and 2019 (#9). He’s played all three outfield positions in his minor league career, appearing primarily as a center fielder. He’s a career .264 hitter and has hit 68 home runs in his seven minor league seasons (2013-19). He had his best campaign in 2017 at Class A Dayton, hitting .293 (146x498) with 24 doubles and 24 homers in 126 games.
