Astros announce Minor League Players of the Month

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros player development department has named OF Zach Daniels the Astros Minor League Player of the Month for August and LHP Colton Gordon the Astros Minor League Pitcher of the Month for August.

Daniels, 23, batted .344 (32x93) with six doubles, six home runs, 21 RBI and a 1.015 OPS (.413 OBP./.602 SLG.) in 24 games in August with High A Asheville.

On the season, Daniels is hitting .281 (91x324) with 63 runs, 14 doubles, one triple, 19 home runs, 58 RBI, 18 stolen bases and a .867 OPS (.361 OBP./.506 SLG.) with Asheville. In the South Atlantic League, he ranks fourth in home runs, fourth in slugging percentage, fifth in OPS and tied for ninth in runs.

Gordon, 23, went 1-0 with a 2.74 ERA (7ER/23IP) with 31 strikeouts, four walks and a .183 opponent batting average in five games (three starts) between Low A Fayetteville and High A Asheville.

For the season, Gordon has gone 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA (12ER/44IP ) with 63 strikeouts, seven walks, a 0.84 WHIP and a .190 opponent batting average in 13 games (10 starts) between the Rookie-level FCL Astros, Low A Fayetteville and High A Asheville.
